| Born on 26th July 1930, Sh. Mahindru is a B.Sc. (Hons) in Chemistry from Delhi University in 1954 and Fellow of Institution of Chemists (India) in 1978, Sh. Mahindru has vast experience in the area of Quality Assurance and Food Laws, Sh. Mahindru worked as Chief Chemist, Regional Agmark Laboratories of Govt. of India for 34 years (1954-1988). He has been the Chief Consultant on Quality Assurance and Food Laws with M/s MDH Ltd. From 1988 till date who are the leading producers and marketers of different spices. He has been also a consultant on quality Assurance to M/s Bikanervala Foods Pvt. Ltd., as ISO 9001-2000 Company. Sh. Mahindru also served as Technical Consultant for M/s Shan Spices, Karachi (Pakistan) and M/s Abdul Rau Hafeez Spices, Sharjah, UAE. Several industrial houses like HLL, Satnam Overseas Ltd., Dharampal Satpal Pvt. Ltd., Lt. Overseas, Frito Lay etc., have sought his expert opinion on their technological problems.
Sh. S.N. Mahindru is the author of 16 books on wide range subjects like Spices in Indian life, Food Analysis, Food Additives, Food Safety Techno Legal Analysis, Food contaminants, Food Irradiation etc. The book on “Handbook of Food Analysis” and “Manual of Indian Spices” are approved as guide books for public analysts’ examination by DGHS, Govt. of India. He has also published about 40 articles on various topics related to Food Industries. This is his 17th book.
Sh. Mahindru is a member of several association and bodies like Associations of Food scientists and Technologists (India), Food Research and Analysis Center, Bureau of Indian standards, National Task Force (Spices and condiments) by ICAR under World Bank etc.
Late Dr. J.S. Pruthi has instituted this award for life time achievements in the areas of Fruits and Vegetables Industry and Spices Industry in the year 2002. The Award carries a Gold medal and a citation. The award for 2005 is being conferred on Sh. S.N. Mahindru for his life long contribution in the field of spices and food analyses.
